Low pitched screaming sound from animal at 1 AM

It did not sound human so I am wondering what type of animal it may be. We have some farms with livestock nearby as well. I took my dog out last night around 1 AM and was frightened by this low pitch screaming sound coming from off in the distance. Genuinely curious what it might be.

Today's New York Times gives us Adam Shriver's Op-Ed " Not Grass-Fed, But at Least Pain-Free ," which presents its dilemma at the end: If we cannot avoid factory farms altogether, the least we can do is eliminate the unpleasantness of pain in the animals that must live and die on them.
