How often do we try to give animals a way to talk? How many parrots talk to each other? It seems like the idea that animals are, in a sense, trying to talk [to you] is not a common thought. And I'm not saying that I expect animals to literally talk. And I'm not saying that I expect animals to literally talk.

UNLESS that is you get yourself down to the internationally-renowned Tambopata Research Centre in southern Peru where literally hundreds of macaws (and other parrots) congregate around a 50 meter high clay bank. A range of animals come to satisfy their need for salt or the soothing effects of the clay along the river banks of the region.

Here are some highlights and observations of that very birdy weekend at Selva Bananito: There are a lot of pewees that pass through Costa Rica : Based on past experiences of pewee mania, I already knew this to be the case but this trip really took the cake. Parrots in Costa Rica require plenty of old trees for nesting as well as for food.

Plasticity in humans is probably modulated primarily through experience and enculturation. We know that animals can essentially lose their predator avoidance behaviors. You will see often repeated that the Galapagos are unique in the lack of fear of humans exhibited by the animal inhabitants. Invasion of the birdie snatchers.

Adam and Tim are experienced Florida birders with varying degrees of experience when birding the Tropical Rainforests. Observation towers and canopy walkways were initially built to help study the plant and animal life in the forest canopy, which is impossible to study from the forest floor. Many of these birds were lifers for them.
