Located within a Puinave indigenous reserve, these remnants of ancient parent-rock are some of the oldest geological formations in all of South America. We found Black-collared Swallows breeding in cracks among the lower riverside rocks. and near-endemic Golden-backed Uakari monkeys ( Cacajao melanocephalus ).

I was fascinated to learn that Black Kites serve the same ecological niche in their range that Turkey and Black Vultures do in North America.
