Tragically, I never saw any birds near the nest later on – I guess they abandoned it, decided to quit procreating, or just got eaten by some other bird or cat. But the stars of the month were some breeding Eurasian Tree Sparrows. The male at work. The juvenile Chinese Blackbirds get older but still look kind of stupid.

Start with Eurasian Tree Sparrow , an unlikely high-ranked target for anybody watching birds in Shanghai. Still, a bird that has its moments – and I am always surprised how this sparrow really seems to enjoy human presence, however destructive it may be.

Swarming around my neck, ears, and hair, they forced me to abandon birding altogether as I swatted them away as best I could. It did not, but instead a Broad-winged Hawk landed on a tall pine right in front of us, quickly taking flight again and soaring away. I had barely made it half a mile before high-tailing it back to the house.

By the last year of the war, the US increased its military aid to the Greek Government and introduced a new weapon: the first napalm attack after World War II took place right here! Like many others, this village was totally abandoned and only recently repopulated, with a current population of only 18 people.

Now, it is perfectly okay that your hands are starting to feel sweaty, and we therefore should first go for an easy elimination to keep calm: Is the bird only the size of a House Sparrow or does it approach a Turdus -Thrush. Option two: abandon bird.

He is happy the bluebird has returned and he hopes that it will nest by his house in “Downy’s cell,&# that is, the abandoned hole of a Downy Woodpecker. Wicked, right?
