Now, I am holding the 5th edition (2020) in my hands – what has changed in the meantime, especially in the 9 years since the 4th edition? I particularly like the albatrosses and owls, shrikes and boubous. Beside the paperback, the Sasol app has also been updated in 2020 and is a massive improvement on the previous edition.

On a twenty-four hour birding bender that had already netted me two state birds, including an amazing Burrowing Owl in Queens , I took a stop at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to see what was around. Being in a boat, digiscoping a Shoebill in the rain, was one of the best birding experiences I’ve ever had, comparable only to feeding Maria.
