This particular nest site is the furthest back from the beach during this time period and the individually marked male Pied Oystercatcher “A1” has been attempting to breed here since 2008. I could observe where the family had come down to the ocean at night on the big tides. One large Pied Oystercatcher family !

The family simply did not have enough money to feed their beloved dog and with breaking hearts they relinquished him to a shelter where he died shortly thereafter of a broken heart after being so loved by this family for many years.

Not for nothing did 10,000 Birds readers elect the chickadee as the Most Beloved Backyard Bird of 2008 ; if we had run elections in other years, chickadees would no doubt have been front-runners. Just to make sure, however, I shooed the dogs away and checked it out. And that he brought his friends and family back to my feeders.
