From here, we were headed towards London, and our final flights back to the US and Seattle. We were visited by a couple of Great Spotted Woodpeckers. Unfortunately, I did not have enough time to really explore all the reserve had to offer, but was able to add the Garden Warbler , and Red-breasted Merganser to my years list.

While we have a bit of a deadline to get to Seattle, approximately 3000 miles north of here, we plan on making each driving day a short one, with a stop in some of the Baja’s best birding hotspots. The Ladder-backed Woodpecker is one of those that has eluded me so far. Let the full time birding begin.

We will cover nearly 3000 miles driving before we reach Seattle, and our final stop. This all netted me three new birds for the list, the Varied Thrush , some Wild Turkeys, and my BBOTW, a Pileated Woodpecker. There is a designated trail, that runs along the hillside near the entrance to the refuge, called the Woodpecker trail.

Then there was a Syrian Woodpecker , practically a species of almond orchards and open savannas, as well as the ubiquitous Common Kestrel , Common Magpies and Hooded Crows.
