Sarah Atlas is a search-and-rescue dog handler, one of many civilian volunteers who serve with New Jersey Task Force 1. They were to be deployed to Ground Zero with 200 other members of New Jersey Task Force 1, including structural engineers and medical workers, as well as other search-and-rescue people.

The event is to be held at Pacha on Thursday, October 22, 2009, and all funds raised will benefit the city’s broad rescue, shelter and adoption services. Last year, AC&C hosted over 200 guests and raised $85,000 for the Animal Care cause.

She was tired, thin, and had several medical issues. She was rescued, put back into her crate, and returned to the Raptor Trust. The grand old bird became a surrogate mother, and raised them herself. The naturalist got out of his car, picked her up, took the tape off her legs, and took her to a local zoo.
