We didn’t know what to expect from the train that had at one time been used to transport bananas to the coast and is now used to transport ecotourists to the wildlife refuge. Howler monkeys! My first-ever wild monkeys! Monkeys!!!!! Not only that, but we had a train ride to look forward to!

Part of the world they wanted to transport was natural. There were no mammals, little game, and not many birds either. One such individual was Sir George Grey, who liberated many animals on his estate (mercifully on an island), including wildebeest, monkeys, zebras, wallabies, deer, cassowaries, emu and kookaburras.

Despite the golf course, this place host all manner of birds and mammals. In fact, we saw two species of monkey, our only sloths, lots of coatis, and my rarest ever mammal sighting—a Jaguarundi —right on site. TRANSPORTATION. Howler Monkey. All in all, the Radisson Summit delivered what we all wanted.

And even though transportation is so easy and inexpensive, prepare to walk a lot. BONUS MAMMAL SPECIES LIST. OK, this isn’t much of a list, but all wild monkey sightings deserve recognition! ). Monkey at a monastery. Plus, taxis are cheaper than you’d expect. So don’t be afraid! Do your research.

Below are a few suggestions of sites within the city that can easily be reached using public transport. There is no transport inside the park and all travel must be on foot. Look out for the Howler Monkeys too. While we are talking of mammals, keep an eye out for the Agouti , Capybara and Coati.
