Well, we got to see the iguanas until they both suddenly realized that a whole boatload of people was drifting right up to them at which point they skedaddled, but by that point everyone with camera had already managed several shots and those without had enjoyed great looks that they probably would not ever forget.

Larry starts us off right with an owl that makes birders drool: I was able to see and photograph many great birds in 2014 but my Best Bird of the Year would have to be the Great Gray Owl , the largest Strix in North America. This striking bird is a strange character and supposedly confused ornithologists for many years even though it was a common sight throughout marshes and open areas in much of South America. While they didn’t let me walk right up to them, they didn’t fly away from the moment we pulled in the parking lot.

We sailed right into a group of more than a dozen Hoatzins (cover photo, by Tyler Ficker) with their orange mohawks and blue facial skin. Because of that, the bird has a manure-like odour and is only hunted by humans for food in times of dire need” [ Source ]. Later, we would be seeing dolphins every day.
