Good for animals, of course – particularly some shy mammals. Therefore, apologies in advance for the largish number of mammal photos in this post. Being a mammal myself, I am understandably much less fond of this animal class than I am of birds. A juvenile nearby.

Phoebe Snetsinger was an American birder who first passed the 8,000 species mark. It has all Big Five animals and a whole lot of other grumpy mammals. So, apart from large vicious mammals and venomous snakes, what else can possibly go wrong while birding? She died in a car accident during a birding trip. None were found.

Ideally i could just continue using "continents", but this could probably get a little confusing and wouldn't make that much sense for animals that live in open ocean etc.

He had a legal permit to own them (Conditional Species Permit), and had legally microchipped them according to FWC guidelines. This is also present in birds & mammals, however it is not fully present in fish & amphibians. Whether we like to admit it or not, we (culturally) view animals on a "sentience spectrum."

Rather, my trip to the American Museum of Natural History last week was enlivened, however slightly, by spotting a Rock Pigeon perched on top of the elephants in the Hall of African Mammals, safely out of the elements and unexposed to Central Park’s hawks. It is driven by love for animals, but relies on their deaths to exist.

The number of individual birds and mammals alone that are affected by these factors are countless; and when you consider fish, reptiles and amphibians, it is hard to comprehend the magnitude of life that gets wiped out around the world (and certainly including the U.S.) There is nothing abstract or controversial about this.

The interests of those working for conservation and those working for animal rights and animal welfare don’t always perfectly align like you might think they do. If you don’t accept that we sometimes have to do harm to individuals to do good for the species, well, nothing I’m going to say is going to convince you.
