I'm not a fan of zoos on principle. But I know there are good zoos and bad zoos. Unfortunately I think there are way more bad zoos than good ones. But even for a bad zoo, this is awful. A lot of the comments are just about keeping zoos open for families and children. Who would they euthanize?

Many birds around the world in the Robin family ( Turdidae ) are favorites due to their musical songs. Little boys kill thousands of birds each year with slingshots. The illegal bird trade kills thousands of birds each year just in the manner they are smuggled. The quail, guans, ducks and pheasant are hunted for their meat.

She is an excellent mother, managing not only to feed her four large cubs, but their visiting father One-eyed who comes by every now and then (he has two more families and being the good father he is, visits them all regularly, usually around lunch time). Very dusty Swarovski CLs.

Furthermore we have another very special stork-like bird, the regal Shoebill , previously known as the Whale-headed Stork but now placed in its own family. Marabous have also learnt another trick, and that is to follow vultures and scavenge off the remains of Lion and other large predator kills.

Donna Fernandes, president of the Buffalo Zoo, witnessed a wake for a female gorilla, Babs, who had died of cancer at Boston’s Franklin Park Zoo. I also watched a red fox bury her mate after a cougar had killed him.

It seems that quite a few zoos keep Tawny Frogmouths. When these birds breed, this can lead to highly cringeworthy announcements, for example from Adelaide Zoo : “We have egg-citing news!” If I was so inclined, I might think that they deserve to be killed by Pied Currawongs for their sinful behavior.
