But they're already on a path of compassion and caring about those other than themselves, so in my experience they're the perfect people to gently nudge in the direction of concern for sentient nonhumans. Beloved family pet Dalmatian, Pepper, is stolen, and after several weeks of searching is discovered to have been experimented on at a hospital and died on the table when researchers tried to implant her with an experimental cardiac pacemaker. By the end of my time as researcher, I was performing behavioral experiments on humans.

The moral of the story is that it's all about the way we farm animals, not that we farm them that is what needs changing. They grill the chickens, and trust me when I say it's all presented as a peak spiritual experience. There's no remotely vegan or even vegetarian (though I'm not even sure what the latter would look like) message.
