testing a vaginal gel on monkeys. Tags: animal research macaque. Now this is pretty gross. I understand it's for HIV prevention, but still. Disturbing. The gel was applied vaginally to three pigtailed macaques twice a week for seven weeks. A fourth animal received a placebo gel in the same manner.

Another animal experiment I would not support as a US taxpayer. The research project, led by Jack Bergman of McLean Hospital, a Harvard Medical School affiliate in Belmont, Mass., was one of 12 awarded radiobiology research grants through NASA's Human Research Program, the space agency announced October 27.

Not sure I agree with posting the researcher's photo. Animal rights activists are targeting a University of Florida researcher for his role in experiments on primates — even though he says he doesn't personally conduct animal research. website, where she posted the researcher's address and a picture of his home.

President Obama promised to eliminate wasteful government spending; funding for animal research is one area that is overdue for reform.
