My husband has two friends (a male/female couple) who are transitioning from vegetarian to vegan and I also have two friends (both women) who are transitioning from omnivore and all are dreading Thanksgiving. You can't play to everyone in a large group (unless it's homogeneous), so many people don't try.

On Being a Minority Within a Minority

Of course there are oodles of vegetarians who mention veganism and how difficult and restricting it is, and overall I'm having a fairly disheartening experience. I broadened my groups to runners, writers, environmentalists and atheists thinking perhaps I should try to find more like-minded people in a more holistic kind of way.

I then promptly completely caved in and bought Wellness ' new large breed, definitely nonvegan dry food (and I always soak kibble) that has 25% protein (Natural Balance Vegetarian has 18%, and all from non-animal sources) and I've started cutting some in just in case (I'll stop at 50%). And no amount of donations to groups that supposedly want to abolish animal cruelty is going to make up for the fact that until you stop having animals killed for you you are part of the problem. The commentator says that part of her winnings will go to abolish animal cruelty (yes, abolish).
