We must recognize the shortsighted nature of Governor Palin’s appeal not to list the polar bear as endangered. Sarah Palin of Alaska—that the Fish and Wildlife Service should not list the polar bear as threatened under the Endangered Species Act because science doesn’t support doing so—doesn’t persuade.

What could motivate gunmen (I cannot call them hunters) in two states to deliberately kill North America’s tallest and most critically endangered bird? It may be as sick as deliberately targeting an endangered species for death. Now, it’s time to go to the top. Speculation is useless in acts of vandalism. It flies on.
