In Africa, one elephant is being killed every 15 minutes. One may say so. Literally.

The history of Tembe Elephant Park in South Africa is a slightly unusual one. But it wasn’t founded to serve as a refuge for human refugees, but animal ones, specifically elephants. And elephants are always overwhelming anyway. Tembe Elephant Park is a mosaic of savannah and forest.

This got me thinking about giraffes living in any part of the US, and I read some reports saying they do live in wildlife preserves in Florida pretty successfully. When I say animals, I was thinking more of large mammals (elephants, buffalo, cheetahs etc…) but other animals are welcome except for obviously domesticated ones.

Miracle upon miracle, I actually ran into my college friend at the visitor center, and now that that logistical snafu was taken care of I could actually focus on where I was and, even better, what wildlife we could see. Add those life mammals to the life birds I already expected to see, and I was practically vibrating with excitement.

With the Wildebeest migration (calving season is January to February), this park is considered to offer one of the greatest wildlife spectacles in the world. Other wildlife includes 60 mammal species, 13 primates among them, Chimp tracking, Forest Elephants too.
