Tundra Swan at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge

Late Saturday afternoon a Tundra Swan was reported from the south end of the East Pond at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. and a visit to Big Egg Marsh (one year bird!) I watched the swan for awhile, occasionally being distracted by Snow Geese flying over, a Northern Flicker calling from nearby, and other birdy distractions.

Lifers includes Gambel’s Quail and Neotropic Cormorant, but the real highlights were the morning fly-out of Sandhill Cranes and the evening fly-in of Snow Geese. I am a westerner who has lived in San Francisco and Portland my entire birding life.
