This is the time of year when the Pied Oystercatchers breed and already three of the sixteen pairs along this stretch of beach have successfully laid eggs. The first pair to lay eggs this season have only a few more days of sitting and then they will be very busy guarding their chicks from predators.

Baby turtles and crocodiles are born as miniature versions of adults. Some birds do this a little. That is an oversimplification of what happens.

Indeed, most cuckoo eggs are accepted by the babax ( source ), although a small proportion of hosts reject cuckoo eggs and often boast about this capability when having a few too many drinks. Ditto Oriental Turtle Dove. The Chinese Babax is a laughingthrush, as is Elliot’s Laughingthrush. Force of habit, I guess.
