This field guide leaves me nothing short of impressed. It covers everything a birder wants to know about the world, and that is poorly covered in school. Here’s an example: born and bred in Europe, I do not know much about the tropics, especially the bird-rich New World tropics. In recent years I was mostly poorly prepared when I visited the American tropics several times.

Today marks International Women’s Day 2023, a globally-observed day of drawing attention to many of the issues women still unfortunately face. We cast our thoughts both on the ills of our far-too-often depraved society as well as the many achievements and milestones accomplished by women. I am here to write on birds, however, and I shall bat in my crease as the cricketers say.

The last time I birded Longcanggou, a national forest park in China’s Sichuan province, was in November 2021. Now, 14 months later, the place has changed – unfortunately, for the worse, at least as birding is concerned. Longcanggou has two main birding spots – the actual national forest park and another, which I can unfortunately only describe as “not the actual national forest park” Last time, the first one was officially inaccessible to tourists, but due to the lo

I recently received a kind letter from a 10,000 Birds friend, who was worried that my recent irregularity in contributing to this website might indicate that something was wrong. I assured him then, and assure you now, that I am fine. But my wife’s and my lives have been rather chaotic of late. First, we had our five-week trip to Spain, Turkey and Jordan in September and October.

In the past, when we have had a lot of rainfall in the Broome area during our wet season we have had the arrival of high numbers of Magpie Geese. In 2017 the arrival of the Magpie Geese warned us of the high rainfall ahead and then they bred in the area. The Magpie Geese bred again in the Broome area during 2018. This year we have had high numbers of Magpie Geese once again in the Broome area and this last weekend we observed our first family groups for the season.

Hey, we have just one mouse who is stuck in our living room and we need to get it out, now the person I’m living with tried to get humane traps but the a **e who bought the traps only bought the deadly traps. I don’t have much at my disposal in terms of resources but I want to make a makeshift humane mouse trap that will work with very minimal resources in a short amount of time.

Hello. Good evening ( it's evening where I leave, at least, but you get me ). My dog lies down all day: on the bed, on the couch, on the floor. I'm afraid she could get spinal problems? She doesn't seem to have any symptoms, but she could have some in the future. If she gets spinal problems, what should I do?
