My hotel was right on the A6 motorway and despite the strange location it is undoubtedly the best hotel for the Oostvaardersplassen.

Although not as exciting as Helgoland, which I covered here recently , Texel is an excellent location in its own right. Bohemian Waxwing The morning of my second day was partly devoted to a Long-tailed Duck in the Mokbaai at the island’s southern tip.

I also got to spend a few hours in the Netherlands. Hybrid dabbling duck , Rieselfelder Münster, Germany. Also high on my list of favourite birds for 2016 is a hybrid dabbling duck whose parentage I have yet to find out. Marsh Sandpiper , Den Oever, Netherlands. But … GREAT BUSTARDS!!
