Note the short legs, stout body and white rump and tail I see Muntjac on virtually every birding (or dog-walking) outing, as these small Asian deer are now very numerous around my home in the Suffolk Brecks. An Animal Welfare First in Spain

The refuge identified the owner via the microchip, but she did not want to take back the dog. Nacho Paunero, President of El Refugio, notes that this is the first time in Spain that someone has been fined for abandoning their animal at the doors of a refuge. He considers it a step forward in the protection of animals in Spain.

The return of the Old Man

The individual I am pictured holding ( above ) was a friendly bird that (rather like a dog) seemed happy to be handled. Despite the fact that efforts are made to ensure they are not imprinted on humans, they are naturally confiding, even friendly. Such an intimate encounter with one of the world’s rarest birds was a memorable experience.

I’ve never quite understood why so many people wrap their scopes up in little jackets, (but nor do I understand why it’s so popular to dress dogs up in coats, too, as they are already wrapped in fur. It proved strong enough to take the many knocks and falls that a hard-used scope experiences during its lifetime.
