In the Washington metro area, we have a BIG deer problem. Let's deconstruct: What we have here is the myth that killing animals in the wild and then eating them is somehow a compassionate act. thinking about the ways in which the deers have a "BIG" human problem. There's a lot going on in the above three sentences.

Beside natural grasslands, they breed in arable fields (primarily alfalfa) where there is no grazing, but they risk being killed by combine harvesters. No, far from it. Sitting on the ground in taller grass, they are all but invisible.

When I reached the levee earlier that morning, I met an elderly hunter from whom I learned that there was an ongoing duck and pheasant hunt, but no one was shooting from, nor towards the embankment, hence I should be safe there. The only wildcat I found was illegally killed by hunters during closed season.

To the Editor: In “ Hunting Deer With My Flintlock ” (Op-Ed, Dec. 26), Seamus McGraw says he has a responsibility to kill deer because there are too many. He has volunteered to kill a deer cruelly, ineptly and with an outdated weapon that causes additional suffering to the deer.
