day, I had come home to a scraggy, skittish stray of my own. The process of taking in a stray isn’t usually instantaneous and straightforward. With respect to the stray cat Puck, we eventually learned her name was Jackie. One typical, blue-sky, L.A. But we lured her inside to keep her safe for the night.

Yes, some gruesome graphic content follows, but don’t blame me, you have been warned. The disappearance of vultures has allowed other species such as rat and [stray] dog populations to grow. Oddly, I saw no rats, only a mongoose or two and a few stray dogs. What was the weirdest place you ever birded? Some smelly sewage ponds?

In North American birding, east versus west is the most basic geographic division of the continent.

We are always content bird-watching around Broome anyway! But in 2020, with all my travel plans cancelled and pretty much everything shut down, I wasn’t straying too far from Albany, New York for birding. This year we were fortunate to observe birds in Victoria at the start of the year before all of the lockdowns.
