I began a program for PBS on a group of young kids in a small town in South Dakota. Kelly Preheim was talking about the large numbers of Snowy Owls on the nearby National Wildlife Refuge. The next spring she reported that her first class was doing very well and were able to rapidly identify nearly 200 species.

And a very happy Masemas for anyone who observes my son Mason’s birthday (probably not as many as the last group!) Turkeys, 3 or 4 species of woodpeckers, all kinds of song birds grace our view constantly. Jochen the swallows have arrived at NYC at Jamaica Bay National Wildlife Refuge too. As I said, we are blessed.
