Seeking the Bahama Nuthatch

He noted that this new bird had longer bills and “darker loral and auricular regions” than the mainland Brown-headed Nuthatch, and collected two of them for science. However, the lockdown forces me to go deeper and deeper into my photo collection, if I want to write anything at all. On a side note, the bird is also kind of ugly, so maybe the chicks never seeing their father has a certain protective function. And that seems to be the only vaguely satisfying thing left to do at the moment.

Penguins, Parrots and Wine on Matiu / Somes Island

As I have explained before these islands are the best place for a lot of the birding here because they are more easily protected from introduced mammals which wreck such havoc on the wildlife here. At the same location it was possible to watch Spotted Shags collecting nesting material and try and get airborne.

Parrots Over Puerto Rico is a wonderland of colors and shapes. The parrots called as they looked for deep nesting holes in the tall trees.
