A few Lesser Kestrels by the dyke wall, then a Black-eared Wheatear at some cattle fencing. House Sparrow – Passer domesticus 103. Eurasian Tree Sparrow – Passer montanus 3. Common Kestrels could be seen, too, but were outnumbered by their more gregarious threatened cousins. This year, we had about 65 dead pelicans.

We’re passing the Dasada village where shop owners and artisans are opening their doors, collecting rubbish in the street and burning it, while standing around those small fires and warming themselves up. Cattle Egret Bubulcus ibis. Ashy-crowned Sparrow-Lark Eremopterix grisea. Indian Cormorant Phalacrocorax fuscicollis.

You will either have to leave it at the airport and collect it later (using up precious time), or carry it with you in hot, humid conditions. The SMRT is predicted to take 50 minutes to the gardens, but a cab would probably manage it in 30 minutes. Taxis can usually be found quickly and easily unless it is raining. Spotted Wood-owl.

By the way, the Queens Zoo has a very nice collection of ducks that are certainly not countable for a birder’s life list but are useful in terns of studying and learning field marks. There was the Botteri’s Sparrow giving a larger Canyon Towhee a piece of its mind, on my way into town: The reservoir itself was underwhelming, only offering me a collection of white Egrets (Cattle, Snowy and Great) and a single Great Blue Heron.
