Incidentally, encounters with both aardvarks and zorillas are rare – it’s much easier to see lions and leopards. Lion – much easier to see than an Aardvark In contrast to East Africa, encounters with mammals while out birding in Europe are relatively few. I wonder how they get on with the wild cats?

Why do animals from the same family attack each other?

So the other day I was watching funny pet cat videos and I started thinking. If one of these cats approached a tiger or lion I am assuming that the altercation would not go well. They are both from the same family so why would they not become friends? But then I asked myself why?

They are not necessarily the biggest African animals, but represented those that were considered a real hunter’s worthy prey or “game” – the African Elephant, Cape Buffalo, Black Rhinoceros, Leopard and king of the jungle, the Lion (which of course doesn’t inhabit jungle but savanna!). In Asia they are even commonly kept as pets!
