In The Last of Us video game, there are two scenes where they show exotic animals surviving in the North American climate. The monkeys made sense; many species of apes and monkeys are adaptable to many climates and are similar to humans in terms of anatomy. The giraffes did not. Any and all speculation would be appreciated.

They are not necessarily the biggest African animals, but represented those that were considered a real hunter’s worthy prey or “game” – the African Elephant, Cape Buffalo, Black Rhinoceros, Leopard and king of the jungle, the Lion (which of course doesn’t inhabit jungle but savanna!).

At any rate there are three species, the Black Skimmer (which isn’t that much blacker than the others) which is found in the Americas, the Indian Skimmer, which is the most vulnerable member of the family, and the African Skimmer, which is widespread but nowhere common in Africa. Some African Skimmers pass by some African Buffalo.

Ndumo Game Reserve lies in the Easternmost part of South Africa, close to the border of Mozambique and Eswatini. It is not particularly big but has a reported 430 bird species including migrants, though during my short stay it seems I missed most of the key attractions among them. An incredible close encounter with this magical cat species. Buffalo bean will make grown men cry and literally drives you insane for hours.

And we move on to the next speck looming ahead and the game repeats itself, over and over.
