They breed after rain events and this was exactly the situation once again. Most were similar to what we had seen in September, with the addition of Magpie Geese in the flooded long grass. Looking across from the shelter we observed a tree beside the road that had an oddness about its shape. Tawny Frogmouth nest with chick.

We soon positioned ourselves in the shelter to watch the birdlife and there was no denying it was a hot and dry day and the shade was appreciated.

Nonprofit organizations, science, and the best intentions in the world came to the rescue with a captive breeding program, and we now have over 400 Pink Pigeons living in Mauritius, the nearby island of Ile aux Aigrettes, and the zoos hosting the breeding program, including the Bronx Zoo. They have a hard enough time with Canada Geese.
