Well, it is that time of year again and shorebirds are breeding. Hopefully all of the migratory shorebirds that left Roebuck Bay earlier this year have been successful at breeding in the Northern Hemisphere and will soon be heading back to our shores. I have also learnt to not count my chickens before they hatch.

In this film, we see farmers interacting with the animals they will eventually transform into food (chickens, pigs and cattle). Although the farmers can easily answer that their animals are treated more humanely whilst alive, their discomfort about being asked questions regarding the slaughter process is visually and audibly obvious.

We are not people who are interested in discussing animal rights, as in, the right of sentient nonhumans to not be used by humans for potential profit, for sport or for lunch. Maybe "humane" is already on its way out for the folks trying to convince themselves and others that humane killing isn't an oxymoron. Feathers: animal.

Their population is in serious decline, so their breeding colonies are monitored by biologists. I’ve been locked in a chicken coop once or twice, too. It was like they said, “You reek of humans, go wash.”. Out here, the PUMAs nest in natural cavities or in the weep holes located in the underside of overpasses.
