Still a notable sighting, however, as this Orange-backed Troupial was a brand new bird for me. Typically, there would be at least one male already at the lek, even as human observers would be getting in position. Nevertheless, it was still a magical experience sitting in the jungle. And waited. No birds yet. And waited.

The Buff-necked Woodpecker (Taman Negara, Malaysia) is classified as Near Threatened, with the usual rationale of “habitat loss” (which sounds nicer than “evil humans destroying anything that does not immediately bring in money). Great Bowerbirds bowers

In a period of a week it had filled up the inside of the bower with a collection of brand new shiny tech screws. This male Great Bowerbird likes to collect the usual items that are green and white, but due to its closeness to human habitation it is able to collect a variety of items beyond the usual Nickernuts, bones, rocks and shells.
