Mid-February is an early start for spring – even this far south – but spring is spring, and birds were waiting. There were birds singing everywhere. The ponds were full of birds as usual with abundant Common Snipe as well as Ruff , some Dunlin , Stilts and a few ducks, including Red-crested Pochards. Tunnel vision? Idée fixée?

The Relict Gull is listed as vulnerable – apparently, it is one of the scarcest of gulls with a global population estimated at 10,000–20,000 mature individuals and up to 30,000 birds.
