Birdy Boating in Baringo

I wrote previously about the prolific birding that is to be had in the small town of Baringo, Kenya. One of my top ten bucket list birds made itself very visible even before the sun broke over the horizon. Drifting slower and looking closer, we observed a tiny Malachite Kingfisher hunting in the sheltered shallows.

Covenham Reservoir

Mum suggested Covenham Reservoir, because even after rain the track should be fairly dry and there were bound to be birds! Covenham Reservoir is the largest stretch of inland water in Lincolnshire and although it is used for various water sport activities during the year it is also used by many species of birds. Hilbre, the Sometimes Island

I’ve never felt the need to do that myself (mostly cause I lack a scope still) but the island has plenty to offer those not seeking hard birding. This ruined… something… is where people shelter to seawatch. Brent Geese, with Wales behind. Hilbre looking north towards Liverpool. Common Redshank.

We were constantly being asked locally if we had crossed the river yet to see the magnificent birding at North Cave Wetlands and so it was only a matter of time before we headed over the Humber Bridge to see what everybody was talking about! Our first stop was the area marked Wild Bird Cafe next to the car-park.

One of the most camouflaged birds in Australia is the Tawny Frogmouth and we often hear them at night when we are camping in the bush, but the chance of seeing them is less likely. The dam was very full and there were numerous species of birds present. At the base of where the leaves started there was a bird.
