A Red Fox in Georgia, not looking very red I’ve never been to Svalbard, so I haven’t ticked off polar bear, but I have seen brown bears on a number of occasions in both Romania and Bulgaria. I’ve also sat for hours in unabated hides in Bulgaria where it’s a matter of luck whether you see a bear or not. in the evening.

• Tigers and other big cats are able to mimic other animals, tigers in specific mimic deer, bear, cattle and monkeys and the South American Margay can mimic the call of baby monkeys to lore adults. Deer, cattle, camel and goats are more closely related to dolphins and whales then they are with horses. .

The Peru Birding Rally Challenge is a joint initiative between PromPeru and the Inkaterra Family of hotels. Besides the birds, the teams were distracted by half a dozen primate species and rare Giant River Otters. We maybe forfeited our chances of winning because of that fantastic hour spent watching the Spectacled bear and its cub.

In short, it’s exactly the sort of place that a family would visit even if there weren’t a state first record at the top of the mountain. After we’d looked at this plain gray bird long enough, we headed to the nature museum and gawked at Black Bears and River Otters and search unsuccessfully for the Mountain Lion.
