Let me start off with being quite clear, there are no grizzly Bears on the Baja! All of which, was for one a one day shoot with the famed bears, as they dined on the fall salmon run. In addition to the Grizzly Bears , I was able to photograph Woodland Buffalo , squirrels, deer, Red Fox , and even a herd of Yaks.

The WBW remained elusive like a bear (for me at least – a month ago, Georgos met a mother with two cubs, took a few photos, then dropped down and played dead). By the cliffs we find several Eurasian Crag-Martins and a consolation species – a family of Golden Eagles in the air! The Greater Spotted Eagle is a threatened species.

The IOC world birdlist recognizes 90 species that bear the name “weaver” or “malimbe” Not all of these are true weavers as we will discuss below. There are currently 64 recognized species in this genus, a remarkable number indeed, and this includes the 5 Asian and 2 Malagasy species.

In talking to the local guides, and Rangers, they all agreed that they had not been seeing too many species around in the last couple of weeks. Where else but in Wyoming will you find Peacocks and a Buffalo together? You know, the Bison, Elk, Bears and Wolves. Little Big Year species – 888. eBird submissions – 292.

Other species I can recognize are colloquially called crocodile bark tree, due to the bark pattern, and paper bark. For you and me, there are about 200 bird species, but for proper tourists, there seem to be only five species in the reserve: Bengal Tiger , Leopard , Sloth Bear , Indian Wild Dog (Dhole) and the Gaur.

But history doesn’t seem to have recorded which species of bird first dared to land on an electrical wire. They’re often even made of trees (mostly Southern Yellow Pine in North America, though many other tall and straight species will also do) and so attract many of the same critters some birds like to eat.
