Let me start off with being quite clear, there are no grizzly Bears on the Baja! All of which, was for one a one day shoot with the famed bears, as they dined on the fall salmon run. In addition to the Grizzly Bears , I was able to photograph Woodland Buffalo , squirrels, deer, Red Fox , and even a herd of Yaks.

For you and me, there are about 200 bird species, but for proper tourists, there seem to be only five species in the reserve: Bengal Tiger , Leopard , Sloth Bear , Indian Wild Dog (Dhole) and the Gaur. Other species I can recognize are colloquially called crocodile bark tree, due to the bark pattern, and paper bark.

Perhaps it’s the carefree bearing they assume up there, sitting high in the breeze, out in the open without any of the concealing foliage they might otherwise be hiding behind, with millions of lethal electrons coursing under their feet. Quite aside of aesthetic concerns, this new infrastructure could be dangerous as well – even deadly.

The WBW remained elusive like a bear (for me at least – a month ago, Georgos met a mother with two cubs, took a few photos, then dropped down and played dead). Cows and water buffaloes grazing the dried up lakebed under the imposing shadow of Mt. I opt for the bird richest section of the lake, visible from the eastern dyke.

Coming from Niagara Falls, New York, it also means freezing, bitter cold, watching for imaginary Polar Bears while pretending to walk through an Arctic landscape, and looking for owls. Another year, another list. That’s January for birding. The locals don’t always get along with the migrants.

Where else but in Wyoming will you find Peacocks and a Buffalo together? You know, the Bison, Elk, Bears and Wolves. We did not ever see a Grizzly Bear, but we did see a Black Bear , although it was way too far away for a picture. OK, I know it is cheesy, but the picture just caught my eye!
