That said, I have not been impressed by a New Zealand economist, Gareth Morgan, calling for New Zealand to wipe out cats.

You would often hear the Rainbow Bee-eaters tapping away as they killed an insect by bashing it on the branches before consuming it. The finches would use areas of bush that offered maximum protection and then drop down to the water’s edge to drink and bathe. Rainbow Bee-eater. Male Variegated Fairy-wren about to take off!

Birding the Kruger Park (2): Bateleur area

The one bird I did not see here, however, was the Bateleur Eagle … One highlight in the area is the Saddle-billed Stork , likely to be the tallest species in the stork family. Another member of the stork family, the African Openbill , looks like it is could benefit from a good orthodontist. And sadly, it is listed as Endangered.

Birding beyond Brisbane

We saw several of the kingfisher family whilst on our trip, including Azure Kingfisher, Red-backed Kingfisher and Sacred Kingfisher. At high tide the shorebirds have a protection wall where they can roost on green lawn and feel safe. Sadly we did see a lot of road kill and no doubt a result of people driving at night.
