It has been more than 5 years since I last went to Australia, and I was even less of a qualified bird photographer then than I am now. All photos were taken in Australia in December 2016 – locations included Brisbane and surroundings, Alice Springs, Ayers Rock, Melbourne, and the coast near Melbourne.

Australia is a dry continent and as such all bird-life needs to take advantage of any fresh water that is available. Beyond natural events, bird-life that requires fresh water takes advantage of the water that we provide due to human habitation. Derby Poo Ponds give an alternative to bird-life from all the surrounding mud.

Brown Pelicans , and the northernmost Brown Booby breeding colony on this side of the Pacific. Other birds with webbed feet, including ducks and geese, have only three webbed toes; the hallux (which in birds is usually the “hind toe&# and in humans, the “big toe&# ) is free. The Red-capped Plover Charadrius ruficapillus is a very cute shorebird that is often seen scurrying along the shoreline around Australia. The male bird has the “red cap&# more than the female during the breeding season and is believed to take less interest in the nesting. The estimated population is 95 000.

Not to mention, its brilliantly bulbous crimson throat, bloated during breeding season must be a sight! They will feed up there and then head north to Siberia to breed. The shorebirds are starting to get their breeding plumage and the first to show some colour are the male Bar-tailed Godwit. We relocated it to a native tree, so it was better camouflaged and protected. Get yours today! However, I must critizise this post of yours.
