However most recent research places them amongst the Panthera. Our Snow Leopard sat, quite Cheetah-like, before stalking off and once again rolling in the gravel, apparently an indication of the desire to mask its scent before a hunt. I am exhilarated therefore to be able to share my images and story of this hunt with you.

It seems that this is another species for which the standard phrase of scientists anywhere, “more research needed”, applies. The White-rumped Shama is a South Asia species – consequently, the HBW mostly discusses its introduced population in Hawaii. A worrying trend.

They are also believed to be related to the Rail-Babbler of Tropical Asia.

There are a lot of other large Galliforme birds around the world, and before the Spanish were busy conquering the New World, one of these, from Central Asia most likely, was already being imported as a food product and as live birds into Europe. They may have also had hunting dogs with them as well. This is where they got their name.
