Here's a post on the Red, Green and Blue blog about the unspeakable trade in macaque monkeys as research subjects. They are considered an environmental pest because they are a non-native species that inflict ecological damage.but to deal with them this way is just unacceptable.

These are not subject monkeys, but they are part of the breeding colony. The last of nine monkeys that escaped from the Oregon National Primate Research Center in Hillsboro was found at 2 p.m. Nine Japanese macaque monkeys got loose Friday after their keeper left the cage unlocked and they figured out how to open the door.

If this was America, we might not be concerned because starlings are an invasive species, at least in North America. They feed on animal plankton and build their nests by burrowing in the dirt on offshore islands. Researchers are wondering if the die-off might spread to other birds or even fish.

We are facing a plague of poaching that is again decimating the species. A different research says, from 2002 to 2011 the known populations of forest elephants declined by 62%. The animal slowly walked away from us, stopping every now and then to check on our behaviour. In Africa, one elephant is being killed every 15 minutes.
