This park protects the largest remaining tract of dry deciduous forest in the west of India, offering visitors 37 species of reptiles, 38 species of mammals and, not to be forgotten – almost 300 bird species. It belongs to the same species as those in Europe, but a smaller subspecies ( Sus scrofa davidi ).

India is to amend its wildlife crime laws to protect the country's tigers, a government minister said. Environment and forest minister Jairam Ramesh said that speeding up justice as well as hefty fines are needed to strengthen the Wildlife Protection Act. India, February 2013. I am camping in the dry-deciduous jungle in eastern Maharashtra, near the geographic heart of India. Birds included common species such as Black Drongos , Jungle Babblers and a Hoopoe. Well, one reason might be – this animal is not only endangered, but even rarer than the Tiger!

Nowhere in India have I seen broiler horror-chicken like those sold in supermarkets back home. They belong to a long-maned subspecies Sus scrofa cristatus (like four-legged Greco/Roman crested helmets) and are my second race of boar seen in India, while I still remain the only Serbian birder who has never seen one closer to home!

And here in Europe, they are the real deal, an indigenous species and not domesticated animals gone wild. This was only my second time ever to observe this subspecies (the first time was here as well), two other subspecies I have observed in India. Beljarica lies less than 2 km/1.2 mi upriver from Belgrade’s district of Zemun.
