Here’s a quote about bird lungs from Britannica: “Himalayan geese have been observed not only to fly over human climbers struggling to reach the top of Mount Everest, but to honk as they do so.” Both falconers and wildlife rehabilitators have to study, gain experience, and jump through various hoops in order to get their licenses.

Reading Deb's post about the goslings at Poplar and getting Jenny 's request to sign a petition to save the Canada geese of Ballwin, Missouri from mass extermination reminded me how much I miss the wildlife at the neighborhood we lived in from 2002-early 2005. This is Girlie Girl. Not to be confused with Little Girl, of course.

Joseph Chiera is a Masters student in Animal Behavior and Conservation at Hunter College in NYC and a “somewhat newbie” to birding. I can hardly begin to describe the surreal experience that unfolded before me. It is truly a magical place, an experience like none other.

Yesterday, regarding being a minority within a minority , mikey commented (among other things): While I am fairly new subscriber to this blog, therefore not knowing your particular stance, I've often felt like a minority within a minority for my stance on animal birth control. Hence, it's a Gray Matter.) And this is one of them.

If your CBC experience is anything like mine here in eastern New York, you’ll be counting an awful lot of crows. It’s entirely possible that I’ve just given some adventurous craft brewer a really bad idea, though it certainly wouldn’t be the first or even most questionable use of animal ingredients in brewing.

There is a rational, and for some people a spiritual, case for being a vegetarian: Killing animals is wrong. I repeat: If you eat meat (I'd say: products that come from animals) , you cannot logically find it morally or ethically repugnant to eat a particular meat (i.e., product that comes from an animal ). The theory is sound.

Late summer 2023 the lakes and ponds had been empty, presumably because the ducks and geese were moulting. All bird and animal pictures are Brad’s. Next day, first stop – really to get some wins after the disappointment of the cancelled plans – was reliable Rocky Mountain Arsenal NWR. We stopped at Rosie’s Diner.
