Good for animals, of course – particularly some shy mammals. Being a mammal myself, I am understandably much less fond of this animal class than I am of birds. If you want to learn more about being miserable and do not know Misery Bear, please watch this video. A juvenile nearby. Shared misery is still misery, or not?

I recently wrote my first check to Animals Asia. They are doing very important work on animal welfare in Asia. I especially appreciate the work they do on those horrific bear bile farms that are really just a form of torture for the animal. Our Vision Change for all animals, inspired by empathy for the few.

Now, in 21st century America, we’re entertaining new considerations, in keeping with our modern understanding of wild animals and conservation. A new willingness among scientists to consider certain moral and ethical implications with respect to wild animals, where previously utilitarian ideas prevailed, including ideas of intrinsic value.

Lanthier, a veterinarian and walrus researcher who took the helm in Calgary two years ago, says the cancellation of the polar bears exhibit might please some animal-rights extremists, but the reality is a blow to Canada's white bears.
