Despite efforts by animal rights activists to stop this hunt, it is scheduled to continue. New Jersey’s first bear hunt in five years is just a week away and set to go on as planned despite a last-ditch effort by several animal rights organizations to have the hunt postponed. That really sucks.

Now that the species is listed in the US as "threatened," hunters can't import the dead body parts (aka hunting "trophies") in from Canada. Ugh, this is barbaric and right out of the dark ages. A declawed, defanged bear is chained to a stake as hunting dogs bark and snap, trying to force the bear to stand on its hind legs. Animal rights advocates say it's cruel to the nearly defenseless bears and harms them psychologically. From the AP.

But the burgers also attracted international attention and the scorn of animal rights activists, who picketed outside the restaurant. Selogie has even received some death threats.
