No Snow on Long Island

I chalked up 132 species in a pretty relaxed eight days, during which birds shared the agenda with culture. What has changed in the meantime? Rough and Ruddy

Take, for instance, the word “ruddy” Outside of birding, when was the last time you used it? And yet, we birders know it refers ot a particular shade of purplish red, as used to describe a duck, or a ground-dove, or a turnstone. Concrete is hardly the most natural environment for photography, but you takes what you gets.
