I'm no sociologist or historian, but it seems like there has always been a variety of inputs involved in any kind of social change, even violence. Is a vegan's efforts at advocacy worth more than a vegetarian's or even a meat eater's if they happen to agree on the same issue? Economics, science, literature, film, politics, law, etc.

With more than 2 million members across the globe, PETA is the largest animal advocacy group and comparable in size to the human rights organization, Amnesty International. First, note that now PeTA is an "animal advocacy group." But it might have to involve addressing the gigantic group(s) briefly and moving on to the real message.

Also, PCRM doesn't advocate for veganism per se , as veganism does in fact involve so much more than diet. If they did that, they'd most certainly get pounced on. Though the health argument isn't ironclad and I wouldn't want to make it the center of my advocacy, I have to remember who the messenger is here and what the context is.

The rest of the animal advocacy community, which is the vast majority, who call themselves abolitionists, are abolitionists. And it usually involves exchanges with non-vegans. I think of the time I spent writing about or talking about "Francione-style abolition," and "abolition."
