The Sacred Ibis was seen as the incarnation of the god Thoth, who (with gods apparently better at multitasking than humans) was (or maybe still is, who knows?) ” Somebody should have warned the poor kites not to copy everything that humans do. ” Sounds a bit speculative to me. When you think of invasives, you think of the birds that have been helped by human beings to get where they are, such as House Sparrow or European Starling. The Cattle Egret is native to Africa, where it is a familiar sight among herds of large mammals. Cattle Egret has been introduced by humans to Hawaii and the Seychelles.

would you see keeping these fish confined in an aquarium as a rescue effort or as a selfish act by humans that interferes with Nature? I think my feeling on it is that it's more of a rescue effort; that we humans made the mess that endangered the species in the first place, so we should do our best to fix it.
