The latter is even captured in a somewhat gruesome video , in which the hornbill plucks a caged bird out of its cage and kills and eats it. At 15h59, the female picked up the fourth chick and killed it by repeatedly crushing it with her beak. One paper describes them breeding in a human settlement in abandoned clay jars.

Tragically, I never saw any birds near the nest later on – I guess they abandoned it, decided to quit procreating, or just got eaten by some other bird or cat. But the stars of the month were some breeding Eurasian Tree Sparrows. The male at work. The juvenile Chinese Blackbirds get older but still look kind of stupid.

We also try to re-nest uninjured baby birds so we don’t interfere with a bird’s breeding cycle. A parent bird’s instinct to feed and protect their young is very strong, and they will not willingly abandon their babies. Mites will eventually kill the bird. Unfortunately a bird’s nest location is not always perfect.

About half of all breeding Wandering Albatross nest on the Prince Edward Islands. After looking through every bar, we concluded that all had abandoned the ship without warning us. These are some of the many species that breed on Marion and Prince Edward Islands which are targeted by the mice population. and seabirders.
