In 2020, our Birdathon efforts came in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, when lockdowns and restrictions remained common. Zooming in on the Orchard Oriole. Sea and shorebirds on Cape San Blas.

Gang-gang Cockatoos-a Christmas wish!

Whilst observing the Southern Emu-wrens a White-fronted Chat flew into view and landed on some raised vegetation! It was a beautiful day and there is a camping ground right on the foreshore. All the best to you and your family for good health and good birding in 2020! Two new birds for 2019 just like that!

Paddling Piney Z Lake

But it wasn’t four months ago, it was mid-June, 2020, mid-COVID-19 pandemic. Piney Z Lake is separated by Lake Lafayette by another raised berm – this time with no openings for paddlers. We could have continued along the paddle trail, but I’m still building my kayaking muscles and didn’t want to overdo it right out of the gate.

An afternoon in the Madikwe Game Reserve, South Africa

They raise their trunks, sniffing the air. From 2020 to 2022, that figure was lower, about 500 animals per year, but is it because of better safety measures or fewer and consequently harder to locate quarries? The two dogs walk right next to our rover and disappear in the dark. Sniffing us.
